Master Ferguson was at TST on Tuesday to receive his surprise birthday gifts. We presented him with a book of good wishes from his friends old and new, which we had spent some time compiling. We also presented him with a new belt, with a colour embroidery of the APTI logo on and a general choi calligraphy art piece.

Master Ferguson was very happy with the presents, and after the presentation he took the adult class through a sparring session which I think every body enjoyed. It is always great to have someone of Master Fergusons knowledge give advice, a former Heavy weight world champion, and head doorman have set him in good steed for this.

It was a great turn out in both the adult and junior classes, so thank you all for that.

RESULTS to the London open, can be found HERE Coventry APTI came 21st, out of over 50 clubs, we only had 8 members in so a great turn around, we also didn't have the luck on the day with referee decisions.
Well done guys, next time I think we could better it, and maybe reach the top 10.

11/08/2008

Well I am back from my trip to France. I hope you all enjoyed your training in my absence, under the wonderful assistants we have at TST, Steve, John, and Taro. We have a few up and coming things to look out for: a demo in Gaydon on 30th August, Coloured belt grading to soon be anounced, and then the APTI nationals, so keep checking the website for up to date news.

It was nice to get back to 100's of emails, just got through them all, and a few very nice ones. 3 from Tae Kwon-Do faces from the past including a nice message from Master Roy Oldham of GTUK, and one of his former students, who trained and graded to 1st degree with me in the GTF. This student will hopfully be linking up with Coventry APTI this week, we look forward to welcoming him.

We were originally planning to have the event at Coventry's newest venue, centre Xcel a week earlier, but due to it being over a month since I booked, on their opening day, and still they can not confirm the booking, we have gone back to what was a great venue last year. Hope to see you all there.

14/07/2008

Well done to all APTI competitors at the London Open yesterday. A quite inexperienced team went to London, and as we only had a weeks notice, we only managed, a group of 8 of us, so well done guys.
The event started well, and all the kids were on the 8 rings, and we were thinking what a great event, and we'll all be done and dusted by 3. The event was quite well ran, but events dragged on so much we actually left at 6ish with still nop sign on black belt sparring, and breaking, after having sat around since 9:30. Well done once again, the members and results are below.

What a great day on Saturday, thanks to PUMA for that

The TEAM APTI members met in Chippenham at 2:00pm for weigh in, and then went off for a bite to eat, and take in some of the sites of Chippenham.
At 6:00pm Master Gayle introduced to big crowd to the event, and the teams:- PUMA, APTI and Evolution, and we watch PUMA's Flowering youth demo team, and a few patterns and an outstanding weapons demonstration.

The event started with the Boys section, and Coventry's Daniel Peckett being the first up. Our boys came 2nd to PUMA and Daniel was absolutely outstanding, being the only boy in the whole event to get a win against the PUMA team, he fought like I've never seen him before.
The APTI girls and Woman's teams fair similar, beating TEAM evolution, but losing out to TEAM PUMA. The atmosphere was electric, and it was hard to heard anyone, with the PUMA support banging drums and chanting, it was very intimidating. The finally was the men's category, and APTI beat Evolution 4 fights to 1, and awaited TEAM PUMA, who entered the ring to their music, and huge cheers. Their team had many national and international champions in, but they were in for a shock.
TEAM APTI's Jordan Kohn was first up, and beat his opponent quite comfortably, with an excellent show. Next up was our secret weapon, Mr Dave Honey, who I was looking forward tp seeing in action, he did not disappoint, and we had PUMA worried, Dave took his opponent apart from start to finish, in an incredible performance, Taro was next up, and a split decision by the corner judges just meant he missed out on a win, in a very close encounter. Stuart Dowell and Ray Moore also just missed out, in very close fights, meaning TEAM PUMA triumphed again, but we had them very worried for a while. The overall results were :

TEAM PUMA 1st Place

TEAM APTI 2nd Place

TEAM Evolution 3rd Place

Well done all APTI competitors, especially Daniel and Taro.

Daniel Peckett, and APTI TEAM coach Master Ferguson

Dear Taekwon-Do practitioners,

Please be advised that effective immediately, the tul of "Ju Che" will be known as it was originally created by our founder General Choi Hong Hi as "Kodang".

Taekwon-Do, the Korean martial art was created by our founder to be free of religious and political ideologies. It was General Choi's wish to leave Taekwon-Do to humanity, free of any influence from religion, government and political influence accordingly, it was decided to revert the name to the original name chosen by General Choi.

As we make this change, the ITF reaffirms its desire to remain independent and true to the teachings of our founder.

ITF Administration

KO-DANG
Pseudonyn of the patriot Cho Man Shik, who dedicated his life to the Korean Independence Movement and to the education of his people.

Please note the pattern will remain as Juche as we know it, it is only the name that is changing.

16/06/2008

What a great weekend. Saturday saw a long trip up north to Carlisle, the 14 families that came up looked to be having a great time together, as we took over the premier inn on Warwick Road. They were all up until kickout time in the bar Saturday night, singing and having a laugh, as the graders relaxed and stayed calm. Some even went around in the night getting photos by knocking on doors and snapping away as people answered the door in their nightwear, which got even funnier when they knocked on a wrong door.
On the Sunday we made our way to ther Dojang at 12:00 noon, and nerves started to set in a bit, we met up with the Sunday travellers, and did the 100's of photos that will be on the site soon. It was good to see Coventry photographers APIX there too, so don't forget to look on their website for photos.
Fraser Cruickshank had the organisation down to a tea, and things ran very smoothly using a walkie talkie to get groups in from the warm up room, and run the whole event back to back. Master Ferguson and Mr Tizick marked the grading, and to me the standard seemed very good. The grading drew to a close at 7:30pm and Master Ferguson retired to the office to add up all results. On his return the students gathered around as he read out all successful students scores to loud cheers from all. All our students passed the grading with Taro Koka getting best in grading.

I had a fantastic time, and to talk to people at the end was so emotional, students crying and hugging with joy and relief, it seemed everybody was pleased with the outcome, I was so proud of them all, my first students from White to black belt ever, and I couldn't have asked for a better performance
Well done once again to all who graded, and all parents and partners who travelled to watch, thanks also to Yvonne Wilkins and Kevin Eaves, for keeping TST running in our absence.

The students were:

Steve Wilcox 3rd Dan
John Naughton 3rd Dan
Mathew Kavenagh 2nd Dan
Taro Koka 2nd Dan
Ryan Kelsey 2nd Dan
Paul Brown 1st Dan
Lauren Morrison 1st Dan
Amelia Barrett 1st Dan
Kellie Barrett 1st Dan
Jessica Keating 1st Dan
Samual Keating 1st Dan
Kyle Ell-Lawrence 1st Dan
Ella Powell 1st Dan
Hannah Pryal 1st Dan
Daniel Peckett 1st Dan
Luke Cassity 1st Dan

Best in grading Taro with 78% in a 60% pass rate grading

This take us up to 23 black belts at TST still regually training.

Weldone to the students who used the 3rd tenet of Taekwon-Do, perseverance, and that came back stronger after being unsuccessful in the past.

Well just got back from a long weekend in the Isle of Wight doing seminars with Master Ferguson. Just like to say thank you to Mr Trevor Barnes and his members, for great hospitality and a friendly welcome and stay.

We loved every minute of the trip, and we never realized what a beautiful place it was. The seminar on the Saturday was ran like a circuit where Myself and Master Ferguson split the class and rotated between Patterns, one step, and breaking. I hope the members I had for patterns all learnt a thing or two, and enjoyed themselves as I certainly enjoyed teaching them. The Sunday was sparring preparation for competition and a chance to see some of the Isle of Wight's students wishing to represent the APTI in fight night.

I have added my photos of the trip to the gallery, Master Ferguson has some more which I will put up when I get hold of them.

Thanks again to Mr Barnes and congratulations on your recent promotion.
Thanks to the IOW students
And thanks to Andrew Wilcox who kept the club in Coventry running while we were away.

27/05/2008

16/05/2008

Next coloured belt grading 6th June, at St Christophers. By invitation only.

16/05/2008

Mr Tizick will at the APTI Isle of Wight clubs from 30th May for 3 days doing patterns seminars.

14/05/2008

Please note black belt graders, you should be training regually now at least twice a week, building up for the grading.
We will need your payment and grading forms back in asap, as well as you dobok size (Most people have now tried on the black ones to see which they want). Also hotels should now be booked if you plan on staying, and we should be aware of the free sessions you have chosen if any to partake in.

If you have not yet done these, please try to next week, before end of month dead line, as I am in the Isle of White the last week.

A Note From Master Ferguson

To all my fantastic APTI instructors...

Here are the details for the fight night, which is being held at the Olympiad leisure centre in chippenham on the 5th July approximately 6pm start. all team members ideally should be blackbelt but if we have any "outstanding" fighters they will be considered, so start deciding who ya gonna put forward, and it would be nice if we could organize a few training sessions conducted by myself and David honey co-ordinating with you guys with a view to selection and to educate the students as to the best training methods to prepare for the event. Ticket prices should be approximately £15 - £20 but I think there will be discounts for multiple sales (don't quote me on that though) We will be using a 3 2 1 point system... as in freestyle rules... not ITF rules !

THE TEAMS...

MEN... 5 man team consisting of... upto 65k upto 70k upto 75k upto 80k 80k +

WOMEN... 5 woman team consisting of... upto 60k upto 65k upto 70k upto 75k 75k +

BOYS... 5 boy team ( all under 16 years of age) consisting of... upto 4 ft 6" upto 5 ft upto 5 ft 6" over 5 ft 6" and one upto 17 years of age any height.

GIRLS... 5 girl team ( all under 16 years of age) consisting of... upto 4 ft 6" upto 5 ft upto 5 ft 6" over 5 ft 6" and one upto 17 years of age any height.

The fantastic guys at P.U.M.A. Master Gayle and Master Ogbourne have agreed to pay for adult team members hotel board and will issue all the kids with two entry tickets each for their parents ! Hopefully we can repay their kindness with a good show of support both with spectators and officials.

06/05/2008

Just a reminder guys about the black belt grading on Sunday 15th June, please note that the deadline (with no exceptions) for applications to be handed in to master Ferguson, is midnight May 30th. So ideally they would be handed in beforehand in case of any errors so they can be returned and resubmitted before the deadline !

28/04/2008

Well good to be back at the school last night, and I hope you agree I thought the new floor was quality. Speaking to the caretaker, he told me there are only 3 companies in the world that lay that type of floor. the same company did a simular floor for the Olympics running track. Our floor was at a cost of £35,000 so you'd expect it to be good. But we have to have the best room in Coventry now I'd think, if not the midlands.

Great to see so many people there too, and welcome to all new members that join us last night. Very big junior and adult class. I think I counted 22 Juniors and 24 adults and last night I thought of 6 regular adults that were missing, so very positive turn outs.
